What are you going to do there? You hardly have any knowledge of Agriculture. How do you fit there? My family and friends asked me when I announced that I was joining Cropnuts.
When I was younger, I knew I would join a technological company. And this meant a company whose core business was selling IT products, whether software or hardware. When I applied to Cropnuts, I wasn’t sure how I fit in myself. I had little to no idea what AgriTech was.
I remember during the interview, I asked the head of technology (who is a very intelligent man by the way), “Are you happy? do you like it here?” Now that I think about it, it was probably very invasive (but I am a millennial, can’t help with the curiosity).
I wanted to know what I was getting myself into. If there was a chance for growth. “ Yes,” he said. “It is different here but there is a lot to learn.” He went ahead and showed me the multimillion machine learning machines in the labs. I fell in love. I knew this is where I wanted to be. Hence the beginning of this amazing love affair between Cropnuts and me.
Agriculture technology or agrotechnology (abbreviated agtech, agritech, AgriTech, or agrotech) is the use of technology in agriculture, horticulture, and aquaculture with the aim of improving yield, efficiency, and profitability
AgriTech is a foreign concept for most people too. The digitization of agriculture has not been fully embraced. It is absurd since Agriculture is the mother of civilization. It is the mother of our continent. However, the future looks promising. That is why I am humbled to be a part of Cropnuts because our work is the future.
Imagine being able to produce twice, thrice, or even more times your seasonal produce, with minimum effort, minimum resources, and maximum profits. Now stop imagining, it is fully possible through Agritech. AgriTech is the incorporation of technological techniques in agriculture to improve efficiency and productivity. Through machine learning and smart analysis of data, you can tell the kind of yield you will have. Maximum produce depends on nutritious soil, fertilizer, water, and of course physical labor. If you had full control over this, wouldn’t you have full control over the yields you get?
With technology, all this is possible. Today there is smart data manipulation…. We have mobile applications for agriculture, drones for agricultural advancements, soilless farming technology(Hydroponics), ICT for agriculture that includes podcasts and ebooks that provide agriculture information for all farmers all over the world, etc. You can now predict the kind of products you will get. And this, honey…this is AgriTech.
Till next time,
