Chlorine

Chlorine (Cl) is an essential micronutrient for higher plants and participates in several physiological metabolism processes.

Importance of Chlorine

  • Chlorine functions in plant growth and development include osmotic and stomatal regulation
  • It is involved in  evolution of oxygen in photosynthesis
  • It plays a role in  disease resistance and tolerance in plants

Chlorine deficiency symptoms

  • Chlorine deficiency results in blotchy leaf chlorosis and necrosis.
  • Chlorine deficiency can be distinguished from other nutrient imbalances because leaves will exhibit characteristic distinct and abrupt boundaries between the affected and healthy tissue.
  • Severe cases of chlorine deficiency may result in bronzing and/or wilting of leaves, though these are not reliable symptoms.
